Backgroundmatching and evolution of cryptic colours of selected passerines in deciduous woodlands

In this study we compared backcolours of tits and associated species with colourbackgrounds in their habitats during the winterperiod. Most species showed distinct preferences for different colour backgrounds, reflecting their choice of microhabitats and treespecies. The results suggest that many of the colours on the studied species have evolved as backgroundmatching. Test: Jens Bursell and Jan Dyck From Lundiana 4(1)-2003
